Believing
Believing
Isabel Cali
We used to lay a tooth on the pillow for a winged creature,
Or make cookies for that jolly old man that flew around the world in one night,
Excited for the chocolate to arrive from the little animal who hopped from yard to yard,
We dreamt vividly while waiting
All for that next morning when we would wake up to see our treasures.
As long as we believed
Those beings, concepts really,
Like flying reindeer, rabbits, runty fairies, and more,
Really did exist.
And anything that seems possible WAS.
But then someone told us the irreversible truth
And our dreams had seemed to be propelled far from our innocent minds.
The feeling as if we'd lost hope in ourselves,
Because we could no longer believe
In the flying sleigh, hopping hare, and hovering critter.
And the world is dark and gloomy;
All the things that made dreams come true
Were gone with those creatures who once brought us a plethora of joy.
What are we to believe in now?
